Chad Brown, post-race: “It looked like he hated the track. He was under the whip on the first turn. He was backing up the whole way. It just didn’t work out. I was optimistic that maybe he would care for the track with his breeding, but it really didn’t work out. I saw a horse that was really fighting the track the whole way. He was getting hit in the first turn, if you watch the replay you can see (jockey Tyler Gaffalione) was already engaging him with his stick to stay with the pack.”

Good going, turffan... congratulations! I made the cut and that's a win for me. Thanks. If only I had that "skill" on the actual golf course.

The Santa Anita stewards need to drive direct to optometrist - just awful, and awfully inconsistent. That decision in the final race on Sunday to take 7 down and place 4th? The #5 was one who veered out, then 7 veered out , none of horses touched each other. Jackass stewards. So bad. Started with Bayern years ago, and have never been able to uncross their eyes. #7 Big Juanito (13-1) ran a hell of a race... thought for a while maybe he'd actually won the race. Even the Place would have landed me in the Horse Tourney money. Awful call by the stewards, imo2.

Congratulations to Forego our worthy 2024 League champion
Also well done 5 Wide for winning the cup today by the narrowest of margins.
It was an exciting season with everyone closely involved from start to finish.

I read the HISA mission statement.
HISA is not just about medication abuses, but everone does have to follow iniform rules.
People can cherrypick as much as they want if they are short term thinkers who are more tied up in seeing the trees instead of the forest. BIG PICTURE people will always win the day, they are the visionaries, but it requies patience and tenacity and the realization that we dont just snap our fingers and its all better.
(That only works when calming your short-attention-span toddler by putting a colorful Disney-themed bandaid over their "boo-boo" to get them to stop crying.) So far, u.s. racing seems to have depended on lots of boxes of bandaids, all with different themes in different states.
Like any problem in search of a solution, it requires a multi-pronged, multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach. As well as time and patience.
HISA isnt just about cheating trainers. Those are just some of the "trees".
The forest view is to bring transparency and uniform standards to the sport, which benefits .... everybody. Human and horse.
If one keeps knee-jerking over every attempt to reach that goal, you become like the swimmer who gets tangled up in seaweed and never finishes the race.
Some people will never see the long term goal as possible, because they are not big picture thinkers.

In my Boston Globe this morning. Has to diminish quality of play.
Games will be played every day of the week except Tuesday. To watch games, fans will need access to NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, Amazon, Netflix, ESPN+, and Peacock.
Regular-season games will be played on three continents. Games will be played on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas Day. The league will hold its third Wednesday game since 1948. Four games will kick off at 9:30 a.m. Thirteen teams will play multiple games with only four days of rest. Games scheduled for Thursday and Monday nights can be flexed to other days.

Agree with Ozzy on the hope more trainers run back sooner in the future. Looking through the charts the track was sealed all day through R8, unsealed for R10 and then sealed for the Preakness and the last. Unusual.

i'm sad i got off the ballerina horse and castellano but...on the bright side i touted seize the grey to the people who matter (cops included) at wrigley i sorta looked like an idiot yelling SEIZETHEGREY as i left ps-jaxon traveler is still alive? where's HE been hiding? There's a particular pleasure in touting winners. A handful friends call every year to ask which horse I like. I was champion of the universe for a few days after the derby.
