Had my first visitors of the year . Love these guys . Bought some shrimp plants which they appear to thrive on.

Nice! Our hummingbirds (Ruby-throated) don't arrive until the first week of May here in upstate NY. Hard to believe that a bird that weighs less than four grams can migrate from southern Mexico all the way up here, sometimes over the Gulf of Mexico in one flight. When we banded birds at my last job, we would occasionally catch hummers in the mist nets. Needed a special permit to band them however. Holding one that you've just delicately removed from a net is pretty special.

The old Largemac account would have made some juvenile comment about hummer week here.
This new account is above that although it is absolutely killing me not to.
Nice to see you UIC.

3 robin eggs in the nest, about 5 feet off the ground in dwarf spruce tree. Lot of chirping when the bulldog strays too close.

I won some kind of reading contest when I was in 1st grade and the prize was a book called "Wonders of Nature." I've never forgotten that , and every day am reminded at how wonderful nature is.

I don't mind the humming birds, the woodpeckers and chickens eating my mangoes and cherries are a different story.
