Hi Everyone, name is David First time at a race track: Can barely remember it, my Dad took me to Woodbine, I'm guessing when I was about 8 or 9. Don't remember how it went/ wins losses but do remember all the tickets on the floor, the roaring fans, and the thrill of the finish line.
Big wins/narrow misses: Biggest win was a $300 tri at Mohawk raceway - Standardbred.... Near miss, the year Orb won the KD...had Golden Soul queued up for the exacta, but thought a $2 win long shot bet, would pay more so bet that instead (I had never bet KD and had no idea payouts were so much higher ;-) $2 Exacta: (16-4) paid $981.60, my $2 Win bet paid 0 - doh. Favorite track(s): sadly I have only been to Woodbine, Greenwood (old toronto track -now gone) and Mohawk.
Favorite trainer(s)/jockey(s): I don't get to go or play enough to have a base to judge from but I follow and have heard Mark Casse interviewed, seems pretty even keeled.
Anecdotes: Del waxing poetically about his time as a pari-mutuel teller, helping people make and cash their first bet, makes me think of my big win above...owe it all to my teller that night. Was my first time at the track, had no idea how to bet (more than "to Win"). He patiently waited while I fumbled through each wager, offered helpful tips, and even suggested the winning ABC X AB X ABCD tri ticket build as a way of getting a bit better coverage for less than a box! Dad is gone now, and I regret not ever asking him to go with me once I got the bug as an adult. Nice thing though is my youngest son (27) picked it up last summer and we have been a couple of times and play online together when we can....
This is a great site, very friendly and supportive, with no ego's or agendas...

Have spent way too much time in the "Tournament" part of the forum and not enough time in this section Name/nickname: Ron First time at a race track: It’s gone now- Trinity Meadows, just outside of Fort Worth Texas in the early 90s; $2 show bets on each of the 9 races that day…… Big wins/narrow misses: Hit an exacta on the Melbourne Cup in 2013 that involved a tax form document (thank you/RIP Red Cadeaux) Favorite track(s): Arlington Park- a beautiful track visited frequently as it was smack dab in the middle of my commute between work and home for 8 years. Favorite trainer(s)/jockey(s): Rene Douglas, Mick Kinane, Frankie Dettori Tracks you've been to: Churchill, Keeneland, Turfway, Thistledown, Lone Star, Hawthorne, River Downs, Louisiana Downs, Newbury Anecdotes: Some favorite memories- • Used to stay up very late at night to watch the Hong Kong races live on TVG when Silent Witness was running • Standing at the rail at the top of the stretch when Rachel Alexandra shifted into high gear in the Kentucky Oaks • Going to Arlington for a full day of races then driving to Hawthorne for the standardbreds that night • The occasional calls from neighbors that I haven’t seen in 10-20 years on Derby weekend that always start with “At track right now/Need help/Who you got?”

NAME: Stephen Favorite Track: I really do not have a favorite track. I prefer betting claiming races, I find stakes races much harder on average. Favorite Trainer: Karl Broberg, maybe?
I truly enjoy the mental aspect of the game and it`s fun to find a great price, in a large field!
Sorry for the belated hello
God Bless

I agree with you Stephen. I can find a longshot in a claiming race a lot easier than Stakes most of the time. I did have a good day at one Breeders cup at CD tough screwed up on bet because I was in a hurry to get back to the table we were at because a pretty girl sat with us (no ring) ... got back and well cheap ass hubby <G> was there. I hissed playing a $10 double I ranted about the night before, Harness Hitch and Sheik Albadou. HH was 40-1.

Thanks for resurrecting the thread. I put it on the other site so we could get to know each other, racing wise. Living so close to Pimlico it was in my blood and that just grew at the 69 Preakness my first adult visit to the track as a teen (Bowie as a 4 year old) and back in the days the infield was pretty empty and you had to walk across the track to get there. There used to be a flag pole. Once the crowd grew, drunk idiots climbed it. Kegs were allowed! The corporate area used to be the "look out" area, footballs and frisbies flying. Given what they did to the infield and grandstand since then I have no idea how they're setting attendance records. There were no seats on the grandstand outside, people shoulder to shoulder. Plus I have so many tracks near me. A few times we did MD to Charlestown on the same day. I remember Jesse Davidson falling off his horse at CT, a bit drunk. He was one of the jockeys caught in a fixed race scandal.

On the old website we used to have a thread entitled “Resume”, or something like that, where members could introduce themselves briefly, from a horse racing perspective. I always enjoyed reading the “bios”, made it more of a community, knowing a little backstory and such. I thought we might try to build a new thread like that. Suggestions for how to structure it below. I'll jump in first. HOLA! name is merasmag/aka sharona. incognito bettor who is a little sad ap has closed because now i must do the bc at hawthorne or not at all (dam(sic)irs). first time at a racetrack? washington park (had a degenerate sister who could only be calmed down by horselets(TM)) first time betting? Balmoral. Narrow Miss- my a-hole ex who played a $2 p6 without me and blamed me for not coming in time for him to add VASA-who was circled in his program as the bomb of the day and the cheap-ass didn't add.we would have cleared over 10k. Fav track was hollywood, horse was lavaman, jock was pval and trainer was bobby. STEVE BYK CAN SUCK MY *** and I cannot wait for the bears to move to ap because it's better than mcmansions. i think i've been to all the illinois tracks-even duquoin!

I think my other photos from when I joined here disappeared or I deleted at the hosting site. Anwyay, try again Me with Payton D'Oro, backside at Larry Jones barn, circa 2010. 2nd shot with one of the Budweiser Clydesale horses 2019 also at Oaklawn wearing my Budweiser Clydesdale baseball cap....right before the pandemic hit Last, recently in Glenwood AR at a convenience store named Racehorse, so I asked a stranger to photo me -- store is in the middle of nowhere, sleepy town, I was on my way to elsewhere, but props to the owners for this great storefront! Gonna be the big 70 this year, you can see in last 2 photo I just let my hair grow out silver. By the way, just wanted to say, I only participate on 2 forums and this is one of them. UIC is a great place, why? Because you guys participate in all the races, not just the U.S. ones, and go out on limbs with interesting longshots and off the radar horses. And because, you don't just call out numbers, but give the horses names. I so dislike the sites that call out picks and just numbers, these horses have names and deserve to be called by their names, that was one of the very first things I noticed about this group. Shows you put the horse first. That's everything to me.
